Help: Article Search Results

The results of your article search are displayed on the Article Search Results page which lists all articles in International Index to Performing Arts containing your search term(s). A summary of what you searched for is included at the top of the page, along with the number of results which have been retrieved.

• Navigate to other pages of results (if available)

What information is shown in each result?

Each result citation displays the following information about the article (where available):

• Author
• Title - this is linked to the Full Citation for the article
• Journal title - a Go to Journal Record link is displayed next to the title to enable you to jump straight to the Journal Record
• Volume/Issue - a Go to Journal Issue link is displayed next to the Issue information to enable you to jump straight to the relevant Journal Issue
• Page range
• Context of matches - this will show up to 3 lines of text from the article indicating any hits which appear with a bright yellow background.

Access to Full Citation

There is a Full Citation available for every article. This can be accessed by following the title link in the result citation.

OpenURL links - if outbound OpenURL linking has been enabled for your institution, an additional link will appear below the result citation in the results list. Click on this link to forward the article details to your institution's link resolver which will look for the article in other services.
Note: OpenURL links will open in a new browser window.

Modify your search

• Click the Modify Search link to return to the Search Articles page with your original search terms displayed
• Edit your search terms or add new ones and re-execute your search.

Save your search terms to My Archive

You can save your search terms to My Archive for future reference.

• Click on the Save search terms to My Archive link at the top of the page
• If you are already logged into My Archive, you will be asked to name your search on the Name a Saved Search page and once this is completed your search will be added to the Saved Searches section of My Archive.
• If you are not logged into My Archive, you will need to enter your username and password before you can proceed.

Tip: the default name for a saved search is 'My Search', if you are saving multiple searches it is a good idea to give them names which are easily recognisable.

Note: article searches are also stored in Search History for the duration of your session.

Sort your results

The order in which your results are displayed will depend on the options you chose on the Search Articles page. If you did not choose an option, the default order is by relevance. Search results can be sorted in one of four ways:

• Relevance
• Alphabetically by journal title
• Oldest record first
• Most recent record first

To re-sort your results:

• Choose an option from the Sort results drop-down list
• Click the Sort button

The results page will be refreshed with the results citations displayed in your chosen order.

Change the number of results per page

You can choose whether to display 50 or 100 results on the Article Search Results page using the Display link. The number of results displayed depends on which option you chose on the Search Articles page.

• If 50 results are being shown click the Display 100 results per page link to increase the number from 50 to 100.
• If 100 results are being displayed click the Display 50 results per page link to decrease the number from 100 to 50.

The Article Search results page will change to reflect the option you have chosen.

By default 50 results will display per page.

Add results citations to Marked List

Each results citation includes a checkbox to enable you to add it to the Marked List.

To add all of the results citations on the page to the Marked List, check the Mark/Clear all results on this page checkbox at the top of the results list. A progress indicator will count down the number of results as they are added to the Marked List and the final total will be shown next to the Marked List link at the top of the page. The results will be displayed with a new background color to indicate that they have been added to the Marked List.

To remove all the results on the page from the Marked List, uncheck the Mark/Clear all results on this page checkbox.

To add an individual result citation to the Marked List, check the Add to Marked List checkbox below the citation. The background colour of the result will change to indicate that the citation is now in the Marked List.

To remove an individual result citation from your Marked List, uncheck the Add to Marked List checkbox below the citation.

Items added to the Marked List will be kept there for the duration of your session. The number of items contained in the Marked List is shown next to the Marked List link at the top of the page.

Note: items added to Marked List from the articles result page will be shown in the Articles section of Marked List.

Filtering results

International Index to Performing Arts allows you to filter your results set by Journal, Language, Name as subject, Date, Broad Subject, Organization, Location, Document Type, Character and Work as Subject in order to obtain the results most relevant to your research. You can use the links in the Filter Results panel to apply these filters:

• Click on the plus (+) icon next to a heading to expand that category, or the minus (-) icon next to a heading to collapse the category. By default a category will expand to display a maximum of 10 subcategories. These are the 10 most relevant subcategories (i.e. the ones with the most results), if there are more than 10 a Show All link is displayed. More than one category can be expanded at a time.
• To see more subcategories, click the Show All link underneath the list of 10. The Show All popup is displayed showing the top 100 subcategories in order of relevance.
• Once you have expanded a category (or are viewing the Show All popup), click on a link to apply that filter to the current results set. A revised set of results with the filter applied is displayed and a summary of the filter(s) applied is shown at the top of the search results page. Only those subcategories which still contain results are now shown in the Filter Results panel.
• Once a filter has been applied a Remove filter link is displayed below the filter category in the Filter Results panel. To remove the effects of the filter, click the Remove filter link and you will be returned to your previous results set without the filter applied.

Note: The journal filter has further level of subcategory enabling you to filter by journal title, then by volume/issue. The date filter has a further level of subcategory enabling you to filter by decade, then by year. It is possible to apply more than one of the main filter categories e.g. language, journal and date.

Navigate to other pages of results

Where there is more than one page of results, International Index to Performing Arts provides a link to each page. Click a number link to display the results listed on that page. Click the Previous or Next link to view the previous or next page of results in the sequence.
